Job Title: Safety Observer (Valero Shutdown)
Duration: 9-12 weeks. September start
Requirements: Must have CCNSG card or course booked before start date.
Main Purpose of Job: Safety Observation to ensure compliance with Health and Safety requirements during Refinery Turnarounds.
Responsible to: Turnaround Supervisor
Main Tasks of Job:
- Play a vital part in ensuring a safe working environment for everyone on-site.
- Be prepared to work long hours outside in all weather conditions and remain focused on task (The role requires tasks such as standing outside of a manway into a vessel for long periods and checking people in and out of the work area).
- Needs to be conversant with the permit to work system (Induction).
- Be able to complete their own point of work risk assessment (Site Training).
- Follow all refinery site rules (Induction).
- Come to work Clean Shaven (Work Safe Home Safe Rules).
- No Drugs, no smoking, no mobile phones (Refinery Rules). Must pass a drug and alcohol test
- Be able to follow instructions.
- Be responsible for the task and be accountable.
- Be punctual.
- Be able to travel to the refinery each day.
- Not to leave the work area prior to the allotted time.
- Be able to digest training initiatives and carry out emergency procedure as directed.
- Be able to walk to and from the work area to and from the accommodation area via the prescribed route (Approx. 750m).
- Once on site the work areas can be at grade or could be at height (Up to 60m above ground level).
- Access awkward areas at all levels negotiating permanent access platforms and scaffold access. This requires working at height but always behind fixed handrails.
- Some access required climbing flights of steps and cat ladders.
- Be able to work at height in variable weather conditions.
Inductions will cover safety aspects and general requirements.
The following Training may also be given:
- Confined space awareness training.
- Hot works working and permits.
- Practical fire training.
The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the organisation and the overall business objectives of the organisation.
Potential for lead in works prior and post event works after.
