Austwel has been appointed as the principal contractor for ground investigation works, partnering with AtkinsRéalis to analyse soil and rock core samples. This project focuses on evaluating ground conditions in order to support our client in their decision-making process.
Working alongside Geotechnical Engineering Limited, we carried out rotary drilling and dynamic sampling of boreholes to a depth of 5m using a drilling rig. Our team began with careful hand digging to 1.2m to ensure that there were no uncharted services, followed by drilling to collect core samples of soil and rock.
These samples are now being sent to the lab for testing, including ground condition strength analysis. Austwel also completed 4No. trial pits with a 360 excavator to a depth of 3m and 2No. hand dug inspection pits x 1.2m. To ensure precision and safety, we utilised our CAT 4 Scanner to detect any underground electrical cables before drilling. Once the samples were taken, we efficiently backfilled the holes using Austwel plant and machinery. Another example of our commitment to quality and safety in every stage of the project 😊
