Austwel Ltd. delivered the civil engineering infrastructure for a 3-train cogeneration plant in Milford
Haven. This innovative project, fueled by natural gas from the adjacent South Hook LNG plant, aimed
to enhance operational efficiency and sustainability.
The plant, designed to generate both electricity for the refinery’s processes and steam for oil
movement, was equipped with gas turbines and waste heat boilers. Surplus electricity was fed back to
the national grid, optimising energy utilisation. Each train boasted a 22.5-megawatt output capacity.
Austwel, responsible for the entire scope from initial site survey to final handover, provided a cost-
effective design for foundations, infrastructure, and ancillary works. Leveraging a skilled in-house
team and robust project management, the company successfully completed the project on time and
within budget.
